Late Oct.-Dec. Happenings

Well, It's benn a while since the last post. So I will sum things up. We had Becca and Tara's baby shower back in Nov. they got some pretty super sweet stuff! Then we had Thanksgiving, work Christmas parties, christmas with friends, and Christmas in Kentucky with my parents. It was so nice to be at home for a week. I got to see almost all of my family and hang out with my cousins children. We also got to see my mom's friend Opal, who has just been as sweet as pie to us. We always get to see our Opal when we are in town. =) My brother and sister in law got to spend Christmas eve thru Christmas day with us. That was a big surprise! I hadn't seen them in over a year. All in all, it's been a super busy fall and early winter. We've loved every second of it and loved getting to spend time with friends in Little Rock, and family and friends in Kentucky. Thanks for a great holiday season everyone! Oh yah, I will include some pictures, and yes that is mom and dad bowling on their Wii dad got for Christmas.

My Bill

Well, most of you all know that I had an L.P. back in Oct. Well, today I received the bill from all our best. I've kinda put the worry about it on the back burner for a while. I think my exact words were when I opened the bill...."this can't be right, holy shit". To sum it all up, of the almost 2 grand I owed, insurance covered almost all of it. I only owe $190. WOW! Time to celebrate!

My Foot

Well...My foot has been hurting since this past April...I thought it was just plantar fasciitis, but it turned out to be a bone spur. I was having a lot of pain earlier this morning in one of my cases, and at the end of the day my friend Karen and I pulled the C-Arm out and shot an x-ray..Her little boy fell on the playground at school so we were actually x-raying his ankle to make sure he didn't break anything. After he was done I pulled my shoe off and wanted to see if anything else was going on with my foot...Much to my surprise her little boy screams " Cool! you have a fang in your foot!" Look at that! Sure enough, check out that bone! It's crazy...and probably will have to be surgically removed or filed down. I included the pictures, it's the fangish looking thing in all of them. I go to the Doctor on the 29th.

State Fair

So...Last Friday night we went to the fair for our "date night" and had a blast! We ate a corndog and grater taters...yumyum! We also saw some animals and saw a bit of three dog night in concert...It was a great and the perfect weather!! Felt like fall out, you could even see your breath.

We had smores and food and more food and attempted to play horseshoes, went for a dip in the frigid creek, and cut down trees for firewood. We also drank some beer and bonded. Our new little friend!

We noticed that a little hummingbird kept hanging out around our front door where we have red geraniums. So... Sarah got a hummingbird feeder and hung it up so that we can see it from the living room. I snapped this picture of our cute little friend... isn't it cute?! I think it must be a baby hummingbird, but my mom and Sarah both think I'm idiot because they say all hummingbirds are that size. What do they know?! It's cute, it's little... it must be a baby!! That's what I say anyway!

My day at work

What happens when your normal doctor's block gets released because he's out of town on a Thur's? General surgery..It was a rather busy day today...I did take time however to listen...It made me think and realize that every minute in your life counts. You should take the time to just listen to what people are telling you..Even if they don't utter a word. I think others are God's way of sending messages to us. I was touched and inspired today by a pt. Just by looking at this person today, you could tell all that she had endured and been through over the past 5 months I think is what she said. How can someone so sweet go through all this? She was all smiles and just so positive about everything. She was getting her infusaport taken out. That is a port placed in which chemotherapy can be given to someone with cancer. This lady just touched me...She had her port removed and still has to undergo radiation to shrink the tumor even more. I think she will beat this though..This has weighed heavy on my heart all day..It makes me think how precious life really is..Gave me a whole new meaning on it really. No matter how awful you feel, there is someone out there who is suffering and feeling worse than you are. It's the little things in life that matter the most and speak the loudest to you. Through others we learn the most. Take each day as it comes and make the most out of life, you never know what God has in store for you. I have attached a picture of what the port looks like so you can better visualize it being in a pocket under the skin for 5 months. In the center of the metal is where the chemo is given.

Our Latest Project!

On Sunday, August 3rd, we decided we needed a project... Amanda needed a new bookshelf to store all of her fabric on as her stash keeps growing! We headed over to an estate sale nearby and that's where we found this jewel! The bookshelf was tucked in a closet and somehow Sarah spotted it. We pulled it out and found a tag marked $25... however, when we looked around the house we noticed a sign that said everything was 60% today! Wow... as papaw would say, "What a deal... what a deal!" So... we paid our $10 and took our happy, bookshelf-ownin' selves home! Sarah got busy painting the new purchase and Amanda got busy refolding all of her fabric to get it ready for it's new home. Here are the before and after pictures.... aren't they lovely?! Organization is such a beautiful thing!

Me, Myself, and the house

Amanda is working at Austin's today so I decided to do a few things around the house. The tomato plants are growing like crazy so I knew I needed to find some taller stakes to tie them to. What works better on a budget than some shepherd hooks not being used? So.....I put them to good use for my maters! My sweet 100's are outta control.....I have at least 18 on them already and my "big boys" have a few as well. My Bell Peppers are following closley behind, might I add, this is the first year my bell peppers actually bloomed out....or should I say, belled out! After tackling the maters and bells, I tackled a bit of the neighbors bamboo that grows 6 inches every night...If he's not going to trim it...I will. Looks alot better. It was starting to get that frumpy fall over onto my grill if you could imagine what that looked like. At last, the poor little turtle is backpacking a huge load, check out that face, is he gonna make it?

Myrtle Beach, SC

We just got back from vacation this past weekend...It was a fun week. We drove to Myrtle Beach, SC and met Sarah's parents there. We split a condo with them for the week and had a blast! It was so good to get to see them, as well as vacation on the beach. It was like a 2 for one! We went out on the beach through early afternoon then came back up to the condo, had lunch, and went shopping. Sarah got to play golf with her dad at possum trot golf club, and beat him by 3 strokes. While they were playing, the braved all of the wild with feeding a carolina black squirrel out of hand, and a raccoon hopping up in their golf cart. Also, we got to eat some yummy seafood! We all had a great time and look forward to meeting up there again sometime in the future...Thanks for a great time at the beach! Here are some pictures from the trip.

The Living Room ReArrange Day

Today, we decided to switch it up a bit and do something free in our own house. The cost? $5.90. What for? A matte for a picture Sarah had painted a while back. We already had a frame for it to go in! So we spent the latter part of the a.m. in our p.j.'s rearranging the furniture. Just trying to give it a new look.
